Christmas Party 2010

I'm Natsume.

At the night of December 25, 2010 at around 6.30 pm, Ubaydah went to a Christmas party at Glendora. There were 19 other people present there. They played numerous games including Super Street Fighter 4, Taboo, Charades, and many more. It seemed like Ubaydah was delighted to be able to attend that party.

In addition, they also exchanged gifts in a manner known as 'white elephant' in which they drew numbers and each of them picked a gift from the pile of gifts in increasing order. They were given two choices though. They can either pick a gift from the pile or steal it from another person. However, a single gift can only be stolen twice. This will continue on until everyone got a gift each.

The pictures below are the gifts pile. Thank you Haruhi for providing all the pictures.

If you noticed, the pile kept on getting larger and larger as more and more people came. Ubaydah won a set of coffee, syrup, and mug. He stole an alarm clock from another person but that clock was eventually stolen from him. The set below was stolen from another person as well and since Ubaydah was the second person who stole the gift, he got to keep it.

That concludes Christmas Party 2010. Farewell.

Merry X'mas!

Hi everyone! Merry Christmas! Haruhi-desu! XD

It's been raining for a week now and it finally stopped last Thursday. Ubaydah has been going to work in the rain. It's the holidays now, and he's currently enjoying it. We took a few pictures of Ubaydah going to work in the rain. He heard that it rained like 8 inches which is pretty unusual in Pomona, California.

Muddy puddles are not something that you see everyday in Pomona unless if there's a pipe leakage, sprinklers going off or something like that.

Ubaydah under a blue umbrella. Look at how wet the surface is.

Since it was the holidays, there's no one around. It's like a ghost town on campus. There were a few researchers around though like Ubaydah.

Since today's Christmas, Ubaydah is going to a Christmas gathering tonight. It's going to be a lot of fun! Hope your Christmas is a lot of fun too!

Have an awesome X'mas! Ubaydah told me to wish you all the same thing too! =D

All the best in your finals!

みなさん こんにちわ! Haruhi's here! I'm back! How are you doing?

Ubaydah just wanted to let you know "All the best in your exams!" to those who're taking them of course. =P

Starting tomorrow, it's going to be the finals week for students of Cal Poly Pomona. It's going to be a long week. Ubaydah doesn't have any finals. However, he does has some papers to write, exam to proctor, and meetings to attend. In fact, he has a meeting tomorrow (today technically coz it's already Monday).

Everyone, have a good week!

I also want to take this opportunity to introduce Natsume. She's also going to be writing in this blog once in a while. So, here she is!

I'm Natsume.

Hope to write soon.

Bye.

.................... thanks Natsume! XD

Have a good night! If you are having an exam tomorrow, study hard and all the best! =)

Goodbye BIO 115A Fall 2010!

Hello... My name is Sakura...

This would be my first post aside from my introduction post.

Um.. where should I start?

I know I have mentioned that I would be posting about something to do with video games, anime, and manga. However, it turned out that there's not much to talk about that stuff in this blog. If I can ever think of something, I'll probably post it.

Um, okay... last Wednesday was Ubaydah's last class that he taught for this quarter. All he has to do now is grade same papers as well as tally up the final grades for his students. He told me that he really enjoyed teaching! He also said that he was very thankful that his students were all good students, very respectful, and worked very hard. He couldn't have asked for something more. Many of Ubaydah's colleagues however, had trouble with some of their students. So, good for him then... :)

The picture above is the picture that Ubaydah took after his last class that ended at around 8pm. Thanks Haruhi for helping out in taking the picture. He was really tired afterward. He went to bed as soon as he got home... he fell asleep actually...

On a different note, Ubaydah is going to teach the same class again next quarter. がんばってね. I hope that his students would be as good as the last ones. :D

Um.. I don't think I have anything else to talk about for now...

So, have a good night. おやすみ. :)

Goodbye Happiness

今晩は, Makie-desu!

How are you doing?

Today, Ubaydah would like to share with you a music video titled "Goodbye Happiness" by Hikaru Utada. After a year of hiatus, she finally released a new music video. The video is very interesting and fun to watch. She's also as beautiful as ever! Hikaru Utada was also the person who got Ubaydah into J-music for your information.

So here's Hikaru Utada with "Goodbye Happiness". Hope you enjoy the video!

Translation:

After the sweet candy has disappeared
A sad looking little boy
On a cloudless Summer Day

Sunburnt hands and feet
Careless if her white one piece gets dirty
An unconscious paradise

I waited after the dream, but nothing
Then one day, I learned of your name

So Goodbye Loneliness
Singing along to a love song
Reflected in your eyes, I’m laughing

So Goodbye Happiness
We can’t return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
But that’s okay
Love me

You can’t overthink it or get too desperate
Don’t fool yourself
It’s a tough world

When humans find themselves all alone
Is when they realize the meaning of love

These fading passing days
Let me hear a gentle song
Do you still remember, to this day
The way we felt around the time we met

So Goodbye Innocence
We can’t return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
It’s all your fault
Kiss me

Oh everything goes round and around
Oh Darling Darling I’m not going to move on to someone else
Only you

Wouldn’t it be great if we could just live the way we are?
At crucial moments, my other self blocks my way.

So Goodbye Happiness
I want to return to those times
When we were naive and energetic
Baby, just one more time
Kiss me

Happy Turkey Murder Day!

lol~ Just kidding! =P

Happy Thanksgiving! Haruhi-desu!

We are currently on a four-day weekend since Thursday. It was thanksgiving on Thursday. Ubaydah and his friends went to Revathi's place for thanksgiving. They had turkey, cranberries, stuffings, mashed potatoes, apple pies, and other traditional thanksgiving stuff. They also played wii, cards and charades. He said that it was a lot of fun! I'm glad!

Here are some pictures from that night:

Pretty cool huh? Coz they look pretty traditional.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

On a totally different subject, I want to introduce you guys to my friends who will also from now on contribute to this blog.

I'll let them introduce themselves!

Hi there! My name is Makie. よろしくお願いします!

I'll be writing entries related to music that Ubaydah would want to share with you guys. I know a lot about his favourite music due to fact that I'm in charge of his music. You'll see me updating about something related to music from time to time. I'm sure Haruhi won't mind.

Haruhi: Not at all! =D

Anyway, hope to see you again! Have a great day!

P.S. - I don't use a lot of emoticons unlike Haruhi.

Haruhi: Jealous! XP

Thanks for introducing yourself, Makie! By the way, apart from being in charge of this blog, I'm also in charge of photography. So, most of the pictures that you see in this blog are most likely taken by me.

Anyway, here's Sakura!

こんばんは... Sakura-desu. How are you doing?

Like Makie, I'll also be writing in this blog. However, I'll be writing about something related to anime, manga, and video games, which are some of Ubaydah's many interests. Therefore, I'll be writing in this blog once in a while from here onward. I hope Haruhi's okay with that...

Haruhi: You can write whenever you feel like it! XD

Thanks Haruhi... hehe...

Umm... so I guess that would be it...

Hope to see you again sometimes...

Haruhi: I guess that's it for today's entry! See you again next time! XD

Makie: By the way, I'll be writing in the next entry and I'll also include a music video that Ubaydah would want me to share with you. For now, bye~

Sakura: またね...

Free time!

どうも,おひさしぶりです! How are you guys doing?

Last Thursday was Veteran's Day which means that Ubaydah got a four-day weekend! That actually means that he got more days to procastinate works and studies. =P

It also means that he got more time to do more stuff that he wouldn't normally have the chance to do on regular days such as cooking.

For the first time in such a long time, he took time preparing his own lunch and dinner instead of the regular instant noodles and eating outside.

Here's what he had for lunch on Thursday:

Spaghetti with three cheese sauce, baked fish and seasoned fried potatoes.

And here's what he had for dinner:

Fried noodles with fried fish.

It's Sunday today (Monday morning actually) and he's grading some papers and preparing to teach a class.

It's gonna be a long week for everyone. Hope you enjoy your week! =)

Getting used to stuff...

Hi everyone! How are you doing? Ubaydah's pretty tired nowadays. He's juggling works, studies, and social life. But he is getting used to all that though. Even when he looks pretty tired (one of his friends pointed this out).

Anyway, he's grading papers now. Cool huh? But it's not easy though. It usually takes like four hours to complete grading papers for 65 students. On average, he would have to grade 130 papers at one time. Sounds like a lot of work to me!

Oh yeah, wanna see a random picture?

A blue soda! XD

Today is a tiring day for Ubaydah too. Hope your day is better than his!

I guess that's it for tonight.

おやすみなさい!

Professor Nasri

こんばんわ! Haruhi-desu! How are you all doing?

A funny thing happened to Ubaydah yesterday. One of his students wrote him an e-mail. This is what he wrote:

Hello Professor Nasri
My name is K**** T*****, i am trying to graduate this spring and still yet to take my Biology class, i saw your section was open, however after speaking to the registrars office and the bio department, i was told i had to get a hold of you to get a permission number....

Professor Nasri?? He just started grad school this quarter! He's definitely NOT a professor! =P

By the way, he asked me to show you all this:

Showoff! XP

Anyway, I told you that I'm going to post some pictures of Ubaydah's classroom right? Well, here they are:

He also told me that the next two classes that he tought were better than the first one. I guess he's starting to get the hang of it.

I guess that's it for now.

The first class he ever teach...

こんにちは! Haruhi's here! おげんきですか?

I've mentioned before that Ubaydah's going to teach a class as a teaching associate right? Well, he just finished teaching one class today! Just now, I asked him how it was. He said it was okay but he also said that it wasn't the best. As prepared as he was, he just didn't have enough experience in teaching. I guess that's just something that you have to gain over time right? He still has two more classes to teach this week. Both classes are on Wednesday. がんばれ!!!

I'll post some pictures of his classroom next time!

I guess that's it for today.

 おやすみなさい!

Awesome Gathering!

こんにちは みなさん! Haruhi-desu! How are you all doing? I'm good by the way. Ubaydah's doing good too~

I've mentioned in the previous blog post that Ubaydah and his housemates are having an open house in order to celebrate Hari Raya. Well, they just had it yesterday and it was awesome! A lot of  his friends came and they had loads of fun! They ate food, played Super Street Fighter 4, and ate some more food!

Check these out!

Look at all the food! There were roti jala, pulut kuning, kuah kacang, rendang daging, kuzi ayam, and many more! すごい!!!

After all the eating and gaming, they watched Ip Man 1 & 2. It's a movie about Bruce Lee's master. I know Ubaydah had watched it several times before but he seemed to enjoy the movie still. Everyone else did too since most of them stayed through both movies. I especially like the fighting parts! :P

Overall I think they all had a great time and the open house was nothing but a success!

I hope you people had a great Hari Raya celebration too!

バイバイ!

Selamat Hari Raya!

Hi! It's Haruhi again! おげんきですか? Hope you are doing fine!

As you may already know, I'm here to write on this blog on Ubaydah's behalf. He would like me to wish you all...

SELAMAT HARI RAYA AIDIL FITRI!
Maaf Zahir & Batin

I would like to wish the same thing too! XD

To those who celebrate this joyous and meaningful celebration, hope you all had a great time! おめでとうございます!!

Here's a picture of Ubaydah in the morning of Aidil Fitri.

He woke up pretty early that day which was unusual if you asked me, hehehe... (he's going to kill me when he read this :P).

Even though it's a day of celebration, he went to work that day. He got back from work pretty late. After he arrived at home, he went to dinner at Yasmin which is a Malaysian restaurant with some friends.

Overall, that's how he celebrated his Aidil Fitri! It wasn't traditional, but it's not that bad. By the way, he's going to have an Aidil Fitri gathering tomorrow. There're a bunch of friends coming! There're also going to be roti jala, rendang, and nasi ayam. It's going to be awesome! XD

That's it for his Aidil Fitri celebration! I'll be back to write some more stuff!

いらっしゃいませ!!!

Hi! My name is Haruhi! I'm the guide for this blog. Basically, my job is to narrate on this blog from a third person's view. Ubaydah's pretty busy to write on this blog himself so I'm going to do all the writings instead. はじめまして!

A lot of people especially family members and friends in Malaysia are wondering what Ubaydah's doing right now, so I'm going to tell you....

He's currently working in a research lab in his school (California State Polytechnic University, Pomona) with his Master's supervisor. Oh yeah, he's also starting his Master degree next Fall (end of September 2010) in Biological Science. In addition, he's also going to work as a teaching associate (TA) next Fall. He's going to teach BIO 115 lab which is basic Biology for non-Bio students. He said that he's pretty nervous about it, but I think he's going to be okay since he's tutored that subject before. But I guess tutoring and teaching are two different things so hopefully he would do fine. がんばって!!!

I'm going to mention a little bit about his research. Basically, he's working with C. elegans (a type of nematode worms) and he's trying to map a gene that suppresses a mutation in the worms itself. That's one of the things he's currently working on.

Here's a picture of the worms he's working on:

Source: http://www.nem.wur.nl/UK/Research/Ecogenomics/

The worms are not like you would imagine right? He gets this all the time, hehe... These worms are about 1 mm long and can only be seen clearly under the microscope.

Here's a picture of his workstation:

Pretty cool huh?

Here is where the worms are kept:

The worms are kept in petri dishes/plates and are stored generally in a 20 degrees celcius incubator. The worms crawl on agar made by him and his lab-mates.

The picture above is the plate making schedule. See his name up there! ^_^

And those are his lab-mates by the way.

Let me show you around Ubaydah's campus:

The picture above is the College of Science, the building where Ubaydah works.

The picture above is the quad area where students meet and hang out.

The picture above is the area near the Bronco Student Center. Did you notice the 'Bunga Raya' on the left of the picture?

The picture above is the university gymnasium.

By the way, Ubaydah bought a new laptop because his old one was broken. Here's a picture of his desk!

I guess that's it for tonight! I'll be updating this blog soon enough with new stuff to tell! If you noticed, I sometimes use Japanese words in my writings so if you don't understand those words, you can always Google translate them! ^_^
