Basketball during EMLA Winter Games 2013

Long time no see!

How are you doing? I hope you are doing well!

A few months ago Ubaydah participated in EMLA (Education Malaysia Los Angeles) Winter Games 2013 held in Arcadia, California.

Even though it was winter, it was pretty hot that day!

Ubaydah played basketball that day.

His team lost the first game (against the runner-up) but won the next. This put them in the semi-finals where they lost to the winner of the whole tournament. Ubaydah's team made it to the top four out of six participating teams.

Here are some of the moments experienced by Ubaydah that day.

It was a hot day for sports but it was really fun according to Ubaydah.

That night, a banquet was held in Pomona for the prize-giving ceremony. There were many prizes given for many sporting events such as basketball, soccer, ping pong, badminton, bowling, and volleyball.

Ubaydah's first research article

今日は!!! Haruhi-desu!

Long time no see! How are you guys doing?

I have great news!

After a lot of hard work and perseverance, Ubaydah finally co-authored a research article. Ubaydah was pretty excited about it! The title of the paper is "Premature Sperm Activation and Defective Spermatogenesis Caused by Loss of spe-46 Function in Caenorhabditis elegans." It was published in PLoS ONE, an open-access, peer-reviewed journal. The impact factor of the journal is 4.092, so it's pretty good! ;)

Hopefully there'll be more papers to come! :)

On a totally different note, the quarter is coming to an end. Spring break will be arriving in less than a week. Happy Spring break, everyone! :D

Hari Raya 2012

Hello there!

I told you I'll be back didn't I?

As promised, I'm going to talk about Ubaydah's Hari Raya trip to El Dorado Park in Long Beach on August 19, 2012.

The Hari Raya (Eid) prayer and celebration were made possible by MIFNA (Malaysian Islamic Foundation of North America) and attended by mostly the Malay community in Southern California.

This would be Ubaydah's 6th Raya celebration in the United States (even he can't believe he's been here this long).

Even though it was short, Ubaydah told me that it was both fun and memorable. =D

 久しぶり!

The last time anyone ever posted on this blog was in June. That was a long long time ago~~

Hopefully you all will have a wonderful Eid celebration if you are celebrating it.

Eid in the US will be tomorrow on the 19th.

Ubaydah is planning on going to Long Beach for the Eid prayer. It'll be a long way drive but I'm sure it'll be worth it.

Hopefully I'll be able to post a few pictures of the event soon!

It was Ubaydah's birthday a few days ago (May 30, 2012).

Happy Birthday, Ubaydah!

Today, I am just going to post pictures of his birthday presents.

The gift wrapped in blue was given by **** :-)

It's soccer in the US!

For the past few weeks, Ubaydah has been participating in a soccer tournament (yes, it's called soccer instead of football in the United States). The tournament is actually the Cal Poly Pomona Intramural soccer league. His team, 'Camtat' (for non-Malay speakers, please don't ask what it means) has gone through the group stage and is now in the play-off.  Here's a summary of his team's results in the group stage:


Game 1: 5-1 (W)
Game 2: 5-3 (W)
Game 3: 9-3 (W)
Game 4: 7-0 (W)


So far, they've won all games and is currently ranked #1 in their group. Ubaydah actually made the first team (even though his performances haven't been that consistent). 


Guess what position Ubaydah's playing?

As you may have already guessed, he's the goalkeeper. His teammates are mostly Malaysian, one Japanese, one from India, and one Mexican American.


In term of size and height, Ubaydah's team may be the smallest (so far). However, they did manage to win against bigger and stronger opponents (who are mostly Americans) using quick passes and great positioning. 


The play-off is in two weeks time and they will then fight against stronger and faster opponents.
